I can't believe I said that...

I sometimes feel that some of the hoops I help customers jump through are a bit pointless and vacuous, but even so, there was no excuse for my response to a request today to produce a programme vision statement to a short deadline.

I said words to the effect of:

Not a problem - we're consultants. Verbal diarrhoea is our bread and butter...

I feel very, very dirty today. Does anyone have a chrysalis I can crawl into as a consultant and walk out of into an occupation with more inherent meaning?

If it's any consolation, today I trekked half way to Birmingham to see a client who basically asked me to provide two days' worth of high quality consultancy for peanuts.

Remember - it's all a pantomime. As long as you're not cast as (a) the villain or (b) the back end of the horse, then you should be fine!

It just doesn't happen at work. Today i would definately like to turn into someone else after my behaviour on Thursday night. which involved no self respect and far too much booze.....

AS for the job, how about doing a turn at the comedy store. I'm sure with your wonderful dead pan humour you'd make a killing.

Kind, kind Kindablue

Thankyou. Unfortunately I appear to have been cast in this particular piece as a villainous hind quarter of horse, dropping steaming piles of manure from a great height upon the unsuspecting team. But then again, that's why they've brought in the consultants, and provided they pay, I'll play whatever villain they need. xx

Pixie,

Oh dear - I've only just caught up with your blog - I'm a bit out of touch with the world after experiencing temporary laptop death and disconnection from the known universe. That, and having the company's summer do last night, at which I fear my professional image may have taken a battering after appearing a little too practised in dancing the timewarp...

Dead pan humour? I don't know what you're talking about... But thanks - I appreciate it. xx

Waynecoff,

Hi and welcome (and thanks). I'll be heading round to visit soon, if that's OK with you. I just have a few friends to call on en route.
